Prei Monti, Roluos Group, Angkor Temple, Angkor

Prei Monti is a small Angkor ruin within the Roluos Group. Also called Prasat Prei Monti, it is older than the three major monuments of the Roluos Group, Preah Ko, Bakong and Lolei. It was built by Jayavarman III, the second king since the founding of Angkor in 802 AD by Jayavarman II.

Although Prei Monti is quite insignificant in size, when compared with the three other Roluos monuments, it stands within a large compound which might also accommodate Jayavarman III's palace.

Getting there
One of the challenges of reaching Prei Monti is to find the country lane that leads to it. There are probably more than one, but the route suggested here assumes you are visiting the other ruins of the Roluos Group before coming here. The ruins are some 13 kilometers east of Siem Reap. Take Route 6 for 13 km. Look out for signpost pointing the way to Preah Ko and Bakong on the right side of the road. Turn in. About 400 meters after the turning, you see Preah Ko on your right. Continue down the road and you reach the northern side of the moat of Bakong. Turn left and go around the moat. Pass the entrance causeway of Bakong to your right. Continue around the moat of Bakong to the west side. Follow the country path until the next junction, then turn left. Continue for another 1000 meters, and you reach the western side of Prei Monti.
